The Ruru or Morepork is the only native owl of New Zealand, Aotearoa.
Whilst being a truly beautiful bird -she is also silent and deadly.
Almost impossible to hear when in flight - the nocturnal Ruru takes its prey completely by surprise.
The English name Morepork is an attempt to reflect the sound of her call, heard throughout the country from sundown.
